Industry Overview

ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance. Investors are increasingly applying these non-financial factors as part of their analysis process to identify material risks and growth opportunities. ESG metrics are not commonly part of mandatory financial reporting, though companies are increasingly making disclosures in their annual report or in a standalone sustainability report.

Problem Overview

The aim was to shift from the traditional database on Excel to a central Cloud Repository, which would facilitate in overcoming the ongoing performance issue and additionally provide several other benefits.

Our approach

Methodology

  • The pre-AWS solution involved client storing data on Excel Databases and making business dashboards from those databases.
  • The client requirements were to use the data stored for analysis and making reports (using BI tools) thus the architecture we built for the client includes Postgres RDS as the database which would solve the problem of storing data on Excel Databases.
  • Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL uses a high-performance storage subsystem customized to take advantage of fast distributed storage and improves upon PostgreSQL for massive throughput and highly concurrent workloads.
  • As compared to Excel, RDS is far more flexible and can easily be connected to various analytical and dashboard tools like Amazon Forecast, Sage Maker, Quick Sight, Tableau and more. Amazon S3 buckets are also used at different levels to store raw data, curated data and more.

A valuable difference

Impact

We were able to map all the metrics of a company under single source of truth. All data scraping and refresh were completely automated. It saved about 8-10 manhours per day just for data cleaning, processing & matching

Developed scalable and easy decision-making dashboards (Pivot). Easily pivotable tool helped analyst to easily get insights and generated custom pdf reports for each organization. 40000 reports for different companies could be generated just by one click. Earlier all the reports needed to be designed manually.

Developed a data management application for the clients to refine & manage as per their requirement.
